Fill your canteen, lace up your Timberlands, and grab a can of bear
mace because the Recreation.gov Locator is taking you camping. Whether
you’re a hiker, hunter, climber, spelunker, or just another city
slicker looking to rough it in the great outdoors, this app will show
you the way to every federal nature reserve from the Redwood Forest to
the Gulf Stream waters.
Not the Davy Crockett type? Not a problem. Leave the bear mace at home
and check out nearby national monuments, museums, and historic
properties. With over 5,000 total locations mapped across the
country—each with its own detailed description and photo—the
Recreation.gov Locator is hands down the most complete database of
federally-designated land on iTunes. Toggle between National Parks,
National Historic and Nature Areas, and National Recreation Sites
until you’re all toggled out and ready to hit the road to your
destination.
The Recreation.gov Locator database is constantly improving thanks to
you. While the app comes pre-programmed with enough listings to
satisfy the most hardcore of naturalists, users are encouraged to
submit reviews, background info, and photos directly from their mobile
device. Just hit “Update or correct information” or “Submit a photo”
and follow the directions; your submission will be reviewed for
accuracy and added within 48 hours. You can also add locations by
going to www.mapmuse.com.
