About Blinds To Go

From the Company Website

In 1954, David Shiller opened his first store, Au Bon March, in Montreal. His retail concept was simple - instead of selling one blind for a ten dollar profit, he preferred to sell five blinds for a profit of three dollars each. This way, he was able to make fifteen dollars rather than ten, sell five times more goods, and gain five customers rather than one. People were attracted to the great prices and excellent customer service and before long, David had customers lining up to get into his store.

In 1976, his son Stephen joined the company. Stephen quickly saw an opportunity in providing custom blinds and shades, so he convinced his father to focus only on blinds and shades. Shortly thereafter, they decided that in order to give their customers the best service, they would have to manufacture their own blinds. By doing this, they would be able to provide their customers with "factory-direct" prices and faster delivery than anyone else. As a result of this simple idea, along with old fashioned-customer service, Au Bon March soon became "the" place to shop for blinds and shades in Quebec. The size of the store doubled three times in only 5 years. Month after month, the Shillers continued to add staff to meet demand. At one point, they had 168 Sales Associates and 17 Managers in just this one store. "We needed that many people to handle the incredible store traffic," says David Shiller.

The Shillers knew that it wasn't easy for people to decorate their homes or shop for the right blinds, so they made the process both easy and pleasurable. They made sure that each sales associate was an expert so they could help customers decorate their home easily. They also made sure that each manager followed the same sales approach and customer service principles that would be the foundation of Blinds To Go's success.

Today there are over 120 superstores, operating under the Blinds To Go and Le March du Store brands, in the US and Canada. To this day, each store follows the unique Blinds To Go sales process that ensures customers old- fashioned customer service.
