Coyote Ugly is a New York City saloon that has lent its name to an international chain of bars. It is perhaps most famous for serving as the setting for the 2000 film Coyote Ugly, based on the GQ article by former waitress Elizabeth Gilbert. Similar to "breastaurants" such as Hooters and Tilted Kilt, Coyote Ugly waitresses and bartenders are generally young, attractive, and dressed provocatively. They participate in various wild routines such as chugging alcohol, setting light to it, then breathing fire; dancing on the bar; long pour shots; singing; and challenging customers to drink-offs. The original Coyote was opened in 1993 by NYU alumna Liliana Lovell.
