Shopko (formerly known as ShopKo until 2007) is a chain of discount retail stores based out of Green Bay, WI. There are Shopko locations in 13 states, including California, Iowa, Idaho, Illinois, Michigan, Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska, Oregon, South Dakota, Utah, Washington, and Wisconsin. Annual sales typically comes in around $2.2 billion, making it a successful regional discount chain, but nowhere near the level of competitors such as Target and Walmart. In 1999, Shopko acquired Pamida, another regional discount chain with locations in smaller communities. The two chains merged into one company in 2012, and most Pamida stores were converted into Shopko Hometown stores, which target smaller communities. The other major Shopko sub-brand is Shopko Express, a chain of pharmacies that carries a limited selection of groceries, beer, wine, health and beauty supplies, over-the-counter medicines, and lottery tickets.
