AT&T Field, Chattanooga, Tennessee, is the home of the Chattanooga Lookouts, the Minnesota Twins' farm club in and 2015 champs of the Class AA Southern League. In November 1998, the Lookouts announced they would build a privately funded downtown stadium IF they could pre-sell 1,800 season tickets and 10 luxury boxes. Those conditions having been met in January 1999, they broke ground that March and christened the ballpark April 10, 2000. The opener saw the Lookouts score a 5-4 win over the Birmingham Barons - an ironic opponent, since the Lookouts WERE the Birmingham Athletics until 1976. Their move to Chattanooga ended a 10-season professional baseball drought. The pro game first came to town in 1885 and - mostly in the defunct Southern Association, of which Chattanooga was a charter member - hadn't gone by anything but Lookouts since 1897. Engel Stadium - which pinch-hit for Brooklyn's Ebetts Field in the Jackie Robinson biopic '42' - hosted Lookouts for 60 years.
