| | Description: Trustmark Park, Pearl, Miss., is the home of the Mississippi Braves, the Braves-owned club in the Class AA Southern League. A developer built it in 2005 to anchor a shopping center, breaking ground four years after stadium dissatisfaction helped cost nearby Jackson its Generals. Ironically, Trustmark landed a franchise for the same reason. The Braves sought a new stadium or major renovations for the home park of the team they owned in Greenville, S.C. When they were told no, Trustmark was in the right place at the right time. It also hosts an annual collegiate non-conference trophy series between the Mississippi State University Bulldogs and the University of Mississippi Rebels. Played for 25 years as 'The Mayor's Trophy' game, the series was reinvented in 2007 as a neutral-site affair called 'The Governor's Cup' - its debut game drew more than 8,000 people, and the series continues to draw in that neighborhood. |
