About CNG or Compressed Natural Gas Fuel Stations (Continued)

...petrol, CNG releases significantly less hydrocarbons, carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, and nitrogen oxides. CNG's safety is also touted by proponents; CNG is relatively non-flammable and lighter than air, meaning it disperses rather quickly.

The most common use of Compressed Natural Gas is in internal combustion engine cars that have been converted into bi-fuel cars, which run on both CNG and petrol. Hundreds of thousands of drivers have converted their vehicles not only to save the environment, but to save money. CNG is significantly cheaper than gasoline. Many state and city governments have also turned to CNG for running their public buses, school buses, and trains.

Despite its advantages, there are plenty of drawbacks of converting to CNG. To begin with, it takes up lots of space, which often presents a problem when storing it at refueling stations and in vehicle tanks. CNG vehicles also own a lesser range than to gasoline powered vehicles, making them unfit for driving long distance. This problem is compounded by the fact that there are only a couple thousand CNG stations across the country, making refueling a major inconvenience depending on your location.
