Craft Distilleries (also called "microdistilleries) are small, often family-owned and run, distilleries that produce alcohol in small quantities. Microdistilleries originated in Europe hundreds of years ago, typically in the form of cognac distillers supplying larger cognac producers, or single malt whiskey distillers selling niche brands for the blended Scotch whiskey market. In the United States, craft distilleries experienced a rapid resurgence several decades after the Great Depression, and today there are over 300 registered microdistillers across the country producing everything from Bourbon to Eau de Vie to seasonally-flavored vodkas.
