Factory tours are organized and most often guided visits to factories that are open to the general public. People visit factory tours to see their favorite products being manufactured (and often to get a free sample). While most factories are closed to the public, various industries are known for offering factory tours. For example, there are hundreds of brewery tours and distillery tours, pottery and glass factory tours, cheese factory tours, and candy factory tours (e.g. the famous Hershey factory tour).

Companies offer tours of their factories in order to bridge the customer-buyer gap, generate additional interest in their products, and retail their products on site. Food service factories will often serve free samples or sell products hot-from-the-oven fresh. Liquor distilleries and breweries tend to give out free samples to customers over the age of 21, and may even use the tour groups to try out new liquors and brews. A "positive circle of consumption" is perpetuated by factory tours, and customers gain a new found respect and trust for a brand, while the brand gains the loyalty of those customers. Factory tours are even looked at as public relations outreach measures in some circles.
