St. Patrick's Day is a religious and cultural holiday celebrated each year on March 17th. Although it's traditionally associated with Ireland, St. Patrick's Day Celebrations occur all over the world. Dressing in green clothes is a common practice, as is drinking Irish beer and liquor (e.g. Guinness, Jameson, and Bailey's Irish Cream). Both dressing in green and drinking Irish spirits are often taken to the extreme. For example, the city of Chicago dyes its river green, Indianapolis dyes its main canal green, and Jamestown (NY) dyes its city fountain green. St. Patrick's Day is one of the leading holiday for alcohol consumption, as is evidence by the scores of pub crawls that take place in college towns across the US. Cities such as New York, Boston, Chicago, and San Francisco throw major St. Patrick's Day parades.
