Army Navy Surplus Stores (often shorted to "army-navy stores" or "military surplus stores") sell lightly used unused items from the government, military, and large industrial operations. As their name suggests, army navy stores sell general equipment (i.e. not guns or explosives) that was manufactured for military use but purchased in excess, resulting in a surplus of goods. The military then resells these goods to privately owned surplus or disposal stores, who in turn retail them for a profit. There's typically an influx of military ware into the surplus market after times of war due to overproduction; for this reason, you will likely encounter large amounts of former military equipment and clothing made during World War II, the Vietnam War, the Gulf War, the Iraq war, etc.
