MapMuse has two primary lines of business:

• We provide mapping services to other websites - primarily Real Estate companies but also to Chambers of Commerce, Convention and Visitors Bureaus, or any other business that has places that they would like to promote.
• We host MapMuse.com, an interactive mapping website that is dedicated to helping individuals "find places to live, work, learn and play."

MapMuse is the best way to find your favorite brands and interests, all brought together on a single interactive map! Start by choosing one of our hundreds of categories such as: Accommodations, Arts and Humanities, Education, Entertainment, Family Fun, Fashion and Style, History, Travel and Tourism, Science and Technology and much more!

Plus if you know any place of interest that isn't provided or you want to add information to a place on one of the maps you can add it free of charge. The idea is for visitors to build upon what we have started by adding missing places or editing existing information about their favorite places. Many know this as the "Wiki approach".

The following information can be provided for each place: the name, descriptive text, a photo, contact information, and a link to a website. Through this kind of community effort, we hope to have the most comprehensive, and descriptive maps for the public to locate places related to their interests whereever they might be. Once a visitor suggests a change, it is reviewed for appropriateness and then posted within 24 hours.

MapMuse.com was conceived by Michael Pilon in 1999. As a management consultant for Arthur D. Little Inc, Mike used geographical information technologies to help large corporations make key business decisions. Mike helped Volkswagen identify potential markets to locate Bentley dealerships shortly after Volkswagen acquired the brand. Mike also helped the United States Postal Service identify where new postal facilities were needed and where other assets could be removed.

Working with maps, Mike believed that there was a better way to find places that the general public was looking for. Mike wanted to launch an Internet service that would allow a person to visually see all the places related to their interests for any given place through very easy-to-use interactive maps.

Shortly after launching MapMuse.com the Internet bubble burst and other streams of income needed to be developed. After developing a working real estate mapping prototype, Baird & Warner, the largest residential real estate company in the Chicago market, purchased MapMuse's mapping services. Since then MapMuse has gone on to sign some of the biggest independent brokers in real estate, including Sibcy Cline, Ebby Haliday, and William Raveis.

Coming full circle to pursue Mike's initial concept for MapMuse, MapMuse.com was launched in November of 2005. Since then MapMuse.com has grown to be a destination to help individuals find places related to their special Interest. Currently MapMuse receives more than 1,000,000 visitors a month and growing. MapMuse has some of the most unique and robust databases of places for a wide range of special interest topics.
